Backpacking Canada: Money Saving Tips
Lindsey Wooldridge
Traveling can be one of the most exciting things you do in life, but it can also be one of the most expensive. If you’re going to travel, you’re going to have to spend money. However, there’s no need to break the bank! Here are a few tips on how to save money when travelling in Canada.
Coupon Books
Many cities publish tourist information guides that are full of coupons for discounts on food, attractions, and transportation. Best of all, these guides are free. Pick one up at the airport or a tourist info center at the beginning of your trip.
Check Museum Hours
Before you go to a museum, make sure to check its hours. Many museums have a block of hours each week where admission is either free or heavily discounted. Call the museum or check its website to find out if the museum you are interested in offers these special hours.
Transportation Passes
One of the best money savers is a public transportation pass. Most cities offer day, week, or month passes on public transportation. Pass types differ, but some offer unlimited travel for a flat fee.
Theater Tickets
If you’re going to see a play or show, buy your tickets the same day. Many cities have booths that sell same day tickets for half price.
College Neighborhoods
Shops and restaurants in college neighborhoods are used to cater to people on a budget. Check out these areas for great discounts.
Hostel Bars
Many hostels have bars and drink specials. And because you're staying right there, no costly late night taxi-rides back.
