Budget travel in Europe is no longer limited to railways and buses. Since deregulation and the birth of budget airlines on the continent over a decade ago, flying to your destination can sometimes be the cheapest option, and it’s almost always the fastest.
Check out the following budget carriers to see if their hubs, routes and rates are a good idea for your trip to Europe. Expect to pay extra for your baggage, seat reservation and any on-board refreshments. Pros
- A quick flight can bridge a long distance avoiding costly ground transport or significant travel time.
- Can take a one-way tour and fly back to your starting point for your flight home.
- Good option if you want to see many popular destinations in a short period of time.
- Europe has an excellent public transport network from the city center to major airports.
Cons
- Travel/waiting time at the airport
- Regional plans can be smaller and may have smaller baggage allowances
- Most are no frills services
- Some airlines are notoriously late or cancel flights last minute
