Cool Canadian Destinations

Lindsey Wooldridge

Don't miss these five lesser-frequented destinations that offer loads of outdoor activities, skiing and summertime fun.

Powell River, BC

On the Sunshine Coast of  mainland BC,  where the mountains, lakes and oceans meet, this vibrant coastal town is 88 miles/5 hours north of Vancouver via car and two ferries or a 1.5 hour ferry ride from Vancouver Island.

Kelowna, BC

Kelowna is the hidden gem of Western Canada. In the winter, Kelowna turns into the access city for Big White and Silver Star Ski Resorts. Located about midway  between Banff and Vancouver, Kelowna makes a natural stop-over when traveling from one destination to the next and is easily accessible with most major airlines flying into the city and the Greyhound Bus service.

Edmonton, AB

Edmonton, the capital of Alberta, is about 3hrs due north of Calgary. Highlights include Elk Island National Park (45mins), West Edmonton Mall and the Edmonton Space and Science Center.

Whistler, BC

Whistler/Blackcomb is ranked as the best ski resort in North America. It will be the official Alpine  Skiing venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics. It’s only 2 hrs north of Vancouver! Whistler can be reached by Greyhound bus, airport shuttle or via the Moose Network.

Mt. Tremblant, Quebec

Mt. Tremblant, located in the Canadian province of Quebec, has been voted the number one ski resort  in Eastern North America for the 8th consecutive year. And best of all, it’s only 90 miles from Montreal. The HI - Hostel there has special package deals that include accommodation, breakfasts and a lift ticket.
